Forward Health Group, Joslin and Pfizer collaborate to advance diabetes care
Joslin Diabetes Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is launching a landmark Performance Improvement Continuing Medical Education (PI CME) research initiative to establish accuracy and predictive value of current assessment methodologies for CME in order to inform ongoing efforts to improve diabetes care.
The research, already partially funded with a grant from Pfizer, will measure the impact of educational and non-educational interventions on practice. The leading clinical informatics provider Forward Health Group, Inc. will aggregate and automate a process to collect electronic data to track actual performance in clinical practice in areas specific to diabetes and cardiometabolic risk. These data will be used to set the standard for comparisons of other assessment methodologies, including self-report, competency assessment and chart pull techniques. Read More

Joslin Diabetes Center has launched a groundbreaking initiative for primary care physicians to improve diabetes care. Joslin, with technology from Forward Health Group, Inc., is providing qualifying primary care practices in the United States with the critical capability to extract usefulness out of existing clinical data at the individual patient level, and to combine this information with practice improvement support and education. FHG Founder/CEO Michael Barbouche and FHG CMO Sean Thomas collaborated with CMS officials to publish physician-centered information about the Medicare Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI). Michael Barbouche to speak on physician quality and performance session at Premier Breakthroughs Conference
Understanding physician quality and performance will be the subject of a session at the upcoming Premier Breakthoughs - Healthcare Conference to be held June 8 - 11, 2010 in Washington D.C. Mr. Barbouche will speak about population-based payment models, or accountable care organizations (ACOs), and how they may provide a potential framework for controlling healthcare costs. Successfully measuring quality outcomes will allow organizations to reward providers for efficiently coordinating services. In this session, Mr. Barbouche will share likely reform scenarios and discuss strategies to prepare healthcare providers to promote physician accountability.

A panel of 78 judges reviewed and scored business plans from the 284 participants in the statewide contest.
